A mid-year pause and reflection,
for the space between what was and what's next.

Every year begins with a certain kind of energy. We set intentions, make plans, and imagine who we might become in the months ahead. By the time June arrives, that momentum often softens and questions begin to surface. What have we achieved? Has so much time already passed? Are we any closer to the person we hoped to become at the start of the year?

"INTERMISSION" emerged from that space of pensiveness and reflection. Not as a conclusion, nor a new beginning; but as a pause between chapters. A moment to sit with what has unfolded, acknowledge what has changed, and make room for what comes next.
When I first began designing this collection, I found myself asking a different set of questions. After two years of building our ready-to-wear line, I wondered what a more mature expression of 3EIGHTH might look like. I was searching for something new, but in doing so, I found myself returning to what had always been there.
We've usually explored the core themes of tailoring, utility, softness, structure, femininity and masculinity from different angles. While the expressions changed, the intention remained the same. To create clothing that allows people to have their own take, and move through life in their own way.
Looking back, I realised our work has never been about choosing one side over another. It has always lived somewhere in between. Between softness and structure, the masculine and feminine. certainty and curiosity, and now; between who we were and who we are becoming.

Utsuro Crop Shirt in Pandan Green, with the Nagare Pleated Trousers in Steel Blue
This collection feels quieter than some of our previous releases. Softer, perhaps. There are touches of Sakura Pink and Pandan Green alongside darker, more grounded tones. Tailoring remains at its core, but is balanced by movement, ease and airiness.

The Oki Scarf Top in Sakura Pink, worn with jewellery from MYRRH
Perhaps that is what this season of life feels like for me as well. At 35, life feels different from how I imagined it would in my twenties. There are fewer absolutes, fewer neat conclusions, and a greater acceptance that growth is rarely linear. There is a quiet confidence that comes from having weathered enough seasons to know that not everything needs to be figured out immediately. Some questions are worth sitting with, some answers take time, and some versions of ourselves only reveal themselves through living. "INTERMISSION" encapsulates that feeling for me.
I guess if I were a pop musician, I'd liken this collection to a sappy ballad amongst my vibrant, brighter songs. "INTERMISSION" is a collection shaped by reflection, curiosity, and the willingness to remain open to what comes next. It is for those of us continually seeking, claiming, and re-discovering ourselves through the different seasons of life.
I often think of our latest additions as a form of soft armour. Not so much in the traditional sense of protection or defence, but these become pieces that accompany us as we navigate the realities of everyday life. The responsibilities of adulthood. The uncertainty of change. The balancing act between who we are, who we were, and who we hope to become.
Oki Scarf Top in Sakura Pink and Nagi Pleated Shorts in Olive Mist
I imagine someone who shows up fully for their life. Someone who takes pride in their work and relationships, while remaining open to change. Someone comfortable with contradiction. Someone who understands that strength and softness are not opposing qualities, but companions. Above all, I imagine someone who remains curious. Curious about themselves, about others, and about what life might still have to offer.
Among the collection, I find myself continually returning to the Gyaku 2-way Vest. Meaning "reverse" in Japanese, the vest embodies much of what "INTERMISSION" is about. Its reversible construction allows it to shift between expressions, embracing the idea that identity is rarely fixed and often shaped by context, mood and season.

The Gyaku 2-way Reversible Vest, featuring two colour ways as you flip,
pictured on its Caramel side with the Ukabu Dress in Olive & Cream,
and the Black side, worn with the Oki Scarf Top in Navy and Sagyo Trousers in Chocolate.

The Ukabu Dress also remains one of the most personal pieces within the release. Translating to "rise gently", the dress balances a structured upper body against a voluminous, floating skirt. It reflects my evolving relationship with femininity - one that is more rooted in strength, ease and self-assurance.
The new bottoms - Nagi Pleat Shorts and Nagare Pleat Trousers both draw from tailoring foundations, yet allow room for movement and softness, embodying a quiet confidence that feels central to this chapter. And lastly, our shirts, the Oki Scarf Top and Utsuro Crop Shirt, which complete the collection through subtle touches that take reference from a scarf and mandarin collar respectively.
Together, they form a collection that does not ask the wearer to choose who they are. Only to arrive as they are. We hope these pieces accompany you through your own pauses, transitions and reflections. Through the moments where life feels certain, and perhaps more importantly, through the moments when it does not.

After all, an intermission is not an ending.
It is simply a space between what was, and what comes next.
We can't wait to hear what you've been pondering about; come through to our Singapore Open Studio session on 20th June to experience the collection and the rest of our universe.
